Where Does Authority Come From?

Peter Drucker Quote“Well done, my good servant!” his master replied. “Because you have been trustworthy in a very small matter, take charge of ten cities.”

The Parable of the Talents in Matthew 25 cuts across the grain of our society. So many people want and expect authority to be given to them before they have proven themselves. The Kingdom principle is that faithfulness with responsibility leads to authority. Can we be trusted to perform small tasks well?

This is why whenever the disciples started talking about authority and which of them should be the “boss” after Jesus was gone, He always turned the conversation back to servanthood. “Whoever wants to become great among you must must be your servant, and whoever wants to be first must be slave of all.” Kingdom leadership starts with service. The paradox, however, is that no matter  what level we attain as leaders, we still must have the attitude of servants.

We will never be given true authority until we have shown that we can be responsible with whatever tasks we are given. Work hard and serve where you are planted. That work and service will produce the seeds for your future growth!

What is one area in which you need to focus more on serving?
