“The presence of God defines us. It is only His presence that sets us apart. And every time we approach God, He, our great God, approaches us. If you can casually slip through worship then I would dare to say that maybe, just maybe, you have not entered true worship at all. When it comes to responding to music, we need Jesus-centered, Holy Spirit-filled, passionate, authentic, messy, beautiful holy heart songs that cause our hearts to bow. Because when God comes close, everything changes.” Darlene Zschech

Nothing can replace the presence of God in our lives. We can try to replace him with other things. We can try to live without his presence, and sadly, most people do. We can even live very good lives beyond the presence of God.

Once I have tasted the Presence of God, however, nothing else will do. Once we have experienced the touch that only the hand of God brings, we will never be able to settle for a substitute. Listen to what Moses said to God: “If your presence is not with us, do not send us from here. How does anyone know that you are satisfied with me and your people unless you go with us? What else distinguishes I and this people than all other peoples on the face of the earth?” (Exodus 33: 15-16)

After the horrible sin of David, he wept before God. It is interesting to note what he does not pray for. David did not pray for God to protect his health or his kingdom. Instead, he prayed that God would not take His Presence away from Him. “Cast me not away from your presence, and don’t take your Holy Spirit from me.” (Psalm 51: 11)

May you experience the presence of God in a fresh way this week!
