A Look in the Mirror

Rembrandt’s “The Apostle Paul”

“So the trouble is not with the law, for it is spiritual and good. The trouble is with me, for I am all too human, a slave to sin.”

How do often do I blame others for my problems?

“It’s my wife’s fault.”

“It’s my boss’ fault.”

“It’s my parent’s fault.”

“It’s the government’s fault.”

I love Paul’s candor and honesty here in Romans: “The trouble is with me…”

I have no control over how other people act or what they do. I have complete control over my attitudes and actions. I can spend my life pointing the finger at others or I can man-up, confess my own sins and shortcomings, and move on. Taking responsibility is the first step towards getting better.

“God resists the proud, But gives grace to the humble.” The first step in humility is realizing that, “The trouble is with me.”

Do you ever have trouble with this?
