“Prayer makes it safe for God to give us many of the things we most desire.” Timothy Keller

“Lord, teach us to pray.” (Luke 11:1)

I am learning that prayer is much more about God changing me than about me getting anything from God. Prayer is more about me becoming someone than getting something. At the same time, though, God really does want to bless his children and give them the desires of their heart.

King David wrote, “Take delight in the Lord and he will give you your heart’s desires.” (Psalm 37:4) The only way that I can really delight in the Lord is by spending time with him and getting to know him better. In the ministry and life in general, I find that there are so many things that I need to do and so many things that I find myself involved in. The most important thing, however, is that we learn to pray.

Jesus’ disciples never asked him to teach them to preach or work miracles. They did ask him to teach them to pray. May the Church today rediscover the importance of spending time in God’s Presence.

How is your prayer life? What is one thing you could do to improve it?
