“By faith Abel offered to God a more acceptable sacrifice than Cain, through which he was commended as righteous, God commending him by accepting his gifts. And through his faith, though he died, he still speaks.” (Hebrews 11:4)
“And it is impossible to please God without faith. Anyone who wants to come to him must believe that God exists and that he rewards those who sincerely seek him.” (Hebrews 11:6)
Faith is not natural. We like things that are safe and solid and that we can see. Faith is not safe, solid, or seen. If it were, it would not really be faith. Faith is faith because it causes us to stretch for something that we can’t see or feel.
Generosity is not natural, either. Jesus said, “It’s more blessed to give than to receive.” That is not the way that most of us look at giving. It feels much better to receive until generosity becomes a part of our lives.
Generosity, like faith, requires us to stretch and to do something that initially feels uncomfortable. As we become faithful in both faith and generosity, we will find that it becomes more natural to trust God. Then, we can experience the blessing of living a generous life!
