If Only God Would Show Me a Sign…

“But despite all the miraculous signs he had done, most of the people did not believe in him.”

Have you ever heard or maybe even said this, “If God would just show me a sign, then I would believe.”

What is it that causes someone to believe? Seeing a miracle is no guarantee that someone will turn to God. True faith always leads to a changed life. If I truly believe, I am going to take that step towards God.

Jesus said this, “If anyone chooses to do God’s will, he will find out whether my teaching comes from God or whether I speak on my own.” It is not a miracle or a sign that creates faith. Faith comes first, even if it is just a little bit of faith. Choosing to follow Christ and obey His words create even more faith and belief in God’s power and presence in our lives.

Miracles can help someone move closer to God and can serve to strengthen our faith if we have a relationship with Him. If there is no faith present, though, it is not likely that seeing a miracle or a sign is going to create faith. Many people watched Jesus perfom amazing miracles and somehow, walked away unchanged.
