Stepping into the Light

“To you has been given the secret of the kingdom of God, but for those outside everything is in parables.” (Mark 4:12)

God is light and He intends for His people to walk in the light. I have talked to Christians who seem to think that God delights in keeping them in the dark. In fact, just the opposite is true. He wants to reveal His plans to us. I guess the question then becomes, “Am I willing to pay whatever price it takes to hear from God?” It is a dangerous prayer to ask God to speak and to reveal his will to us.

The Holy Spirit wants to illuminate us but am I willing to have His light shine on the dark places of my life?

Am I willing to let Him open those closed doors in the dark corners of my being?

And then the really important question: Am I willing to obey once I know what God’s will is?

An often quoted and sung passage is 1 Corinthians 2: 9- “However, as it is written: “No eye has seen, no ear has heard, no mind has conceived what God has prepared for those who love him…”

We often neglect the next verse, though: “…but God has revealed it to us by his Spirit. The Spirit searches all things, even the deep things of God.”

Does God really want to reveal the secrets of the Kingdom to His followers? Jesus said that that was the case. Maybe this could be the season that I begin to hear things that I haven’t heard before and to see things that I haven’t seen before. I am committed to becoming a better listener. How about you?
