The Ten Year Anniversary of 9/11 was yesterday. The memorial services were amazing and it just felt like we had put aside our differences and were united, if only for a day. There has been a lot of reflection about what where we were at and what we were doing on September 11, 2001. One of the things I have been thinking about for the last ten years is the question, “Why do these militant Muslim groups hate us so much?”
Do they hate us because we allow our women to go to school and don’t force them to cover every exposed bit of flesh?
Do they hate us because we allow our children to go to school, boys and girls together, no less!
Do they hate us because we have the freedom to worship however we choose, or not choose?
Do they hate us because we are a rich and prosperous nation?
Do they hate us because we support the nation of Israel?
After ten years, I’m still not any closer to answering my question. I’m sure the answer is complicated and a combinatioin of many factors. I think our friendship with Israel is a big part of their hatred. The only thing that the militant Muslims hate worse than America is Israel. But even there, I think that that is just one factor.
To be continued…
What do you think? Why do you think that they hate us?
